Update your home’s exterior with durable, well-planned renovations designed for Victoria’s coastal climate, heritage neighbourhoods, and midcentury streetscapes.

Enhance your home's curb appeal

Your home’s exterior is the first thing people see — and the part that takes the most abuse from Victoria’s rain, salt air, and wind.

Thoughtful home exterior renovations in Victoria BC can:

  • Refresh a tired façade and boost curb appeal
  • Improve function and safety at entries, stairs, and walkways
  • Extend the life of your home’s structure and finishes
  • Make older homes more energy efficient and comfortable
  • Increase resale value and buyer confidence

Capital City Construction focuses on exterior home renovation in Victoria BC that looks right for the street, holds up in our climate, and respects the character of your neighbourhood — especially in Oak Bay, Saanich, and Greater Victoria’s older areas.

Whether you’re dealing with failing steps, rotten trim, drafty windows, or a dated entry, we help you plan upgrades that make sense for your home and your budget.

Our exterior renovation services

We provide complete home exterior renovations in Victoria BC, with a focus on heritage and midcentury homes that need careful, practical updates.

Your front entry sets the tone for the whole house. We help you create a safe, welcoming, and durable entryway with:

  • Rebuilt or reconfigured front porches
  • New stairs, landings, and railings
  • Covered entries and canopies to keep rain off the door
  • New exterior doors, sidelights, and trim
  • Lighting and hardware that match your home's style

Many clients come to us for porch and entry renovation in Victoria when steps start to fail, handrails feel loose, or an old porch no longer suits how they use the home.

We repair, rebuild, or redesign:

  • Back decks and patios for everyday use
  • Upper-level decks with proper waterproofing and structure
  • Safe, code-compliant stairs and railings
  • Transitions between house, yard, and garden

We focus on long-lasting materials and carpentry details so you're not redoing the same work again in a few years.

Older siding and windows are often the weak points in Victoria homes — both for weather protection and energy use.

We handle siding and window replacement in Victoria BC with an eye on:

  • Moisture management and proper flashing
  • Insulation and air sealing improvements where practical
  • Trim details that suit heritage and midcentury styles
  • Energy efficient window upgrades that reduce drafts and condensation

We'll be candid about what can be repaired and what truly needs to be replaced.

Cracked, sinking, or moss-covered concrete isn't just an eyesore — it can be a safety issue.

We plan and build:

  • New front and back concrete steps
  • Patios and sitting areas
  • Accessible paths and entries for aging in place
  • Concrete repairs and resurfacing to address cracks and uneven settling

Our focus is on safe, non-slip surfaces and proper drainage for our wet winters.

Many heritage/midcentury home exterior renovations in Victoria involve more than just fresh paint. We often:

  • Repair or replace rotten beams, posts, and joists
  • Address failing balcony or deck structures
  • Improve guardrails and handrails to meet current code
  • Tie exterior work into interior framing when needed

We don't look the other way on structural issues just to keep a quote low. If something needs to be fixed, you'll hear about it clearly and early.

James and his crew have done work for me for the last 10 years. From redoing my kitchen 10 years ago, to redoing bathrooms, bedrooms, living room, porch etc. etc. over the years. I have now moved and they have redone a suite for me and soon will be doing my kitchen. I have recommended James and crew to many friends and family. All are very pleased with the work and glad they have someone they can trust. I would not hesitate to recommend Capital City Construction.

Detached garage & studio in Victoria, built by Capital City Construction

We have hired Capital City Construction for multiple home renovations. Each time we have been very pleased with the outcome. James provides excellent workmanship at a fair price. He listens, provides feedback when asked and will offer suggestions for your consideration. He organizes his trades and follows through each job to completion. James and all his trades show respect for your property, and clean up after themselves. We have recommended James to several of our friends.

Michael & Heather Reid

I am happy to write this recommendation for James and his crew at Capital City Construction. James completely re-modelled our 1938 vintage (and very ugly) laundry room turning it into a beautiful space, complete with pull out drawers, counter and cupboards for storage. He also suggested turning the additional space into a mudroom, with a bench for additional storage (sports equipment) and various hooks for coats. It was beautiful! We have since moved into a brand new home, but I still miss that laundry room. He then moved into our vintage bathroom and tore out the ugly small tiled shower stall and prepped/installed a beautiful marble shower, and painted the bathroom. When we had a new kitchen designed and installed, we hired them to do the painting. His painters are excellent and his cabinet maker is amazing - very creative and makes good use of space. He and his crew have done various jobs for us over the years and we are set to have our new home repainted along with some drywall fixes. James has a great sense of colour, design and style and will offer ideas that you haven't even dreamed of. I have recommended him several times over the years and will continue to do so. He is meticulous in his work and leaves the work site clean and tidy at the end of his work day. He also sticks to your budget! Highly recommend!

Shannon Feeney & Jim Murray

I required a hot tub pad, upper and lower decks, support beams and sun room renovation and flooring throughout the upper area. James Latham and his hard working crew were entrusted with my home and provided timely and incredibly high quality workmanship. The custom cedar work is extremely pleasing. His professional attitude and fair price ensures that I would not hesitate to contact him for future renovations.

James Latham has done two jobs for us, one quite open ended. He is creative, honest, extremely skilled, and has a good sense of which projects are worth pursuing. Can't recommend him highly enough.

James recently completed a small project in our condo. He replaced an existing electric fireplace with an new one and installed a TV over it. He also upgraded hallway closet doors and installed hardwood in another closet. He is reliable, friendly, competent and reasonable. We are very happy with the results.

Frequently asked questions

We’re happy to look at smaller exterior projects, especially for repeat clients or when the work is important for safety or preventing further damage — things like failing steps, unsafe railings, or localized rot repairs.

A well-executed exterior renovation can significantly improve curb appeal, buyer confidence, and perceived value. New windows, proper flashing, repaired structure, and updated entries are all selling points — and they make day-to-day living more comfortable and secure.

Yes. For more complex home exterior renovations in Victoria BC, we coordinate our trusted network of electricians, concrete specialists, and other trades. You deal with one point of contact; we handle the rest.

We’re upfront about potential issues from the start, especially on older homes. If something unexpected shows up — like hidden rot or structural problems — we:

  • Show you the issue clearly
  • Explain your options and costs before proceeding
  • Update the schedule as needed and keep you in the loop

Our goal is no surprises — in both budget and timeline.

There will be some noise and activity outside, and occasionally we may need brief access inside for things like window replacements. We minimize disruption by:

  • Keeping access routes clear and safe
  • Scheduling louder work sensibly
  • Communicating in advance about anything that affects you or your neighbours

Costs vary depending on the size of your home, existing conditions, and how extensive the work is — simple repairs and repainting cost less than full siding and window replacement with structural upgrades. We provide clear estimates so you can see where your budget is going and adjust scope if needed.
